Even more anticipation is to be had after reading several gratuitous praisings in the beginning by other peers and commentators on the Tale.Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to the hype. The book itself reads more as a haphazard blog post, with Treadwell admitting that this is her first brainchild in print and that the majority of her writing experience comes from blogging itself. That part would be forgiving if she actually told more tales that were relevant to Druidry and people following the path instead of some many paragraphs reliving a short memory she had before a ritual-which happens through the the entire book. The only guide of thought on these chapters appears to be questions that she has received from her blog or emails, and while some are useful, none of them tell the whole story and none continue their point in an easy to follow manner.I really wanted to like this book and other than a few mild insights, such as learning to laugh at yourself if you decide to come out publicly about your practice and the importance of location in handfasting rituals, this book held no profound effect on me.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Far more personal than a how-to bookBy A. BarlowI heard about Cat through blog posts shared on Facebook by others, and enjoyed her style. I've probably read nearly every "how to be a pagan" book there is, and dislike the "spirituality by numbers" way they all seem to end up. "Read this and be enlightened!" I think that's missing the point.Cat Treadwell thinks so too. I enjoyed this book. I knew it wasn't going to be a how-to, but I didn't know that it was still going to challenge me and make me think. It's a series of short chapters on various themes but each discussion is rooted in, and emerges from, her own experiences, and she never claims to have all the answers. It left me with more questions, which is probably the point, and I would have liked a little more clarity in her explanation of some of her beliefs. I struggle with the idea of deity and how you can conceive of some kind of god or goddess, and at one point Cat seems to acknowledge there aren't big beardy blokes sitting on clouds but in another place she's referring to deities in a very literal way - but then again, it makes me think a bit more about my own beliefs, so ultimately the book has succeeded. If I have any other criticism, it's just a little too short. A longer one would have got a 5-star review!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It's not the usual, it's like learning to feel the sacredness of life.By E. TillemaWonderful book.
