Loved, loved, loved it!!My preferred genre is traditional Historical Romance and rarely deviate from it. However, on a whim I read Firelight because even though it was a paranormal romance it is a historical. I loved it and I was hooked. I have read every book in this series and have thought each was better than the last. This book is no exception and has surpassed Winterblaze as my favorite.I loved Holly and William. Their banter is priceless, their love is epic and their passion is scorching!I consumed this book - I made the huge mistake of starting it at 10pm and could not put it down. I forced myself to stop reading at 2am and seriously considered calling in sick to work so I could finish it :).This book has it all, action, suspense, star crossed lovers, heart wrenching agony, super hot love scenes, humor and soul mates. Sigh...I don't have the words to describe how wonderful and satisfying this book was. You must read this yourself. You should read the entire series! You will not regret it.I can't wait for Adam and Eliza's story and I hope Sin gets a book too (love him).0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.witty dialogue and a passion filled plotBy Heather E. FowlerDelicious, evocative, witty, passionate, and beautifully well-crafted story. Love it. This installment has the best witty banter between the two main characters. I loved watching them spar with each other. There were quick back and forth moments that made me smile and laugh. Callihan surpassed the other books in the dialogue between the two main characters alone, but through the conflict and the heart-wrenching conclusion and their sacrifice at the end, just made this SO good to read. I mean, damn it was awesome! I think the series just gets better. There are only two books left and I can't wait to dive into them. Adam and Sin still have to find their happy ending and the addition of the Fae as the villains' ups the anti. No more are we dealing with just demons or angels but now the Fae and they are not the good kind of Fae either. The series has a great blend of history and paranormal elements that come together to make an enjoyable story and a world to get engrossed into.9 of 10 people found the following review helpful.Quite Possibly The Best One of the Series UPDATE: 27 Aug 14By Douglas C. MeeksKristen Callihan seems to excel at bringing together couples who really don't like each other at the start of these novels in the Darkest London series (which seems to get a bit darker as this series progresses).William Thorn and Holly Evernight are an extreme example of that talent since their first meeting in this novel he is trying to kill her, not a great opening line in most instances since her feelings are close to his, but this is Darkest London and it only raised the bar a bit higher than the others in this series.You also do not get wilting flower heroines; the women are strong but still vulnerable. Holly Evernight is possibly one of the strongest of these heroines and still the author was able to build a believable romance here.What you get is a soaring romance that is wrapped in a mystery with a couple of subplots being moved along at the same time. The lack of the legion of secondary characters that you saw in some previous novels is pretty much missing here and the emphasis is mainly on the main couple which is understandable since the distance from trying to get a couple from "I want to kill you" to "I love you" is an awful long way but Ms Callihan pulls it off right nicely but not without dragging the reader through some pretty emotionally gut wrenching situations and a surprising twist of an ending, throw in an almost Cinderella vibe and you have an amazingly great reading experience that will stay with you for a long time.I would warn you to take nothing for granted in this story and the last page leaves you with a inkling for what I expect will be a series changing next novel along the lines of Acheron (sorry if you don't know that reference)Bottom Line: An exceptional novel, well written, a romance that will roll around in your mind for days or longer, an alpha male, an exceptionally strong heroine and it all works together. I only had one complaint, you left us in the dark on the maid, I expect some detail next novel. The ending was a bit of a dark premonition for the next novel and left me a bit unsettled but I guess that was the purpose, hold on to your seat for the next one. This may be the best book of the series to date so don't miss it, the previous novel would give you some better background but is not a requirement I do not believe since most of the important things are revisited. UPDATE: The more I think about it the more uncertain I am about the need to read the previous books, I would now say you need to read the previous book in the series at a minimum, the others would be optional but I strongly recommend you start at book 1 Firelight (Darkest London Book 1)See all 76 customer reviews...
